How to Send Money to an Inmate in McHenry County Jail?

Family and friends may send money to an inmate’s trust account at the jail lobby, online, or by sending money orders to the jail. Generally, depositors simply need to provide the money and the recipient’s information, like the inmate’s name, JCA/jail ID number, and housing facility.

Visitors may send money from the jail lobby by using the kiosk machine in the front lobby to deposit cash or make credit card payments into the inmate’s account. Alternatively, non-visitors may easily deposit funds online through the recommended service provider (Access Corrections). Persons may also make phone deposits with toll-free call systems provided by the same vendor (fees apply).

Lastly, interested persons may fund an inmate’s account by sending money orders with the inmate’s name and account number in the memo field, payable to McHenry County Jail. However, this process may take longer than the others.

Inmates may use the money to buy commissary items or pay for other goods or services not provided freely at the facility.

Inmate Search by Jail Facility

There is only one central jail facility in McHenry County, excluding the temporary holding cells in police agencies. Furthermore, there are no federal or state-run detention facilities within the county.

Therefore, the inmate search tools provided by the McHenry County Sheriff’s Office are the only government-provided tools available to check for inmates in the county jail. To find persons held temporarily at police holding cells, interested persons should direct queries to the arresting agency.

McHenry County Visitation Rules and Schedules

Inmates in the McHenry County Jail may receive on-site and remote video visits on a fee basis. Whereas, attorneys may have privileged visits after setting up accounts with the video visitation company. For general visits, family and friends must register for visits through the approved video visitation company (ICSolutions).

Registered persons may then pre-schedule visits and log in to the visitation kiosk or app on time (on-site visitors should arrive early). The jail’s visiting hours are as follows:

Sunday to Saturday:

  • 9:00 a.m. to 10:30 a.m.
  • 12:00 p.m. to 1:30 p.m.
  • 3:00 p.m. to 3:30 p.m.
  • 6:00 p.m. to 9:30 p.m

However, the facility may change the schedule or cancel visits based on their other schedules, needs, maintenance, or emergency lockdowns. Therefore, visitors should confirm schedules or inmate availability before carrying out a visit. All visitors must keep the visit rules, which include:

  • All visits can be up to one hour, but may be limited according to the visitation terminal or inmate’s availability.
  • Up to two persons may visit an inmate on-site.
  • All visitors must bring valid photo identification
  • An adult must accompany visitors under 17 years old and supervise them.
  • Visits are subject to monitoring and recording.
  • Disruptive behaviors by either visitors/or inmates may lead to cancelled visits and even cancelled privileges in the future.
  • Visitors must dress appropriately.

Interested persons may also contact inmates via mail or the fee-based phone system (ICSolutions).

Mailing and Commissary Information

Persons may send letters, cards, pictures, and pre-approved publications to inmates in the McHenry County Jail. Interested persons should make sure that the facility does not prohibit their correspondence before sending it to the following address:

Inmate’s Full Name, Jail ID Number

McHenry County Jail

2200 N. Seminary Avenue,

Woodstock, IL 60098.

For example:

John Doe, 123456

McHenry County Jail

2200 N. Seminary Avenue,

Woodstock, IL 60098.

Interested persons should send all mail through the U.S. Postal Service and include the sender’s name and return address. However, an inmate cannot receive correspondence from another inmate. To pre-approve a book, magazine, or other publication for mail, fill out and submit the online form at the bottom of the corrections page.

The McHenry County Jail does not specify how to send inmates commissary items like clothes, food, beverages, and personal care products. However, the facility specifies how to fund an inmate’s commissary account so that they may order the items themselves. Interested persons may deposit commissary funds in person at the jail lobby, online, or via phone calls through the approved vendor (Access Corrections), or by sending money orders through the jail. Additional details are available in the previous section on how to send money to inmates.
